Message from the Chair

As a follow-up to her message to members in August 2021, Mary Thompson has recently written again to members with an update:

"You will note from the latest OLHA e-bulletin that some History Societies are resuming meetings or holding them on-line.   I regret that we have been unable to do likewise as I am aware that people appreciated the variety of speakers and talks we held.

"As Chair of the Society, and a founder member, it has been a privilege to have been involved and learn so much from the talks, but also from the research we have undertaken ourselves on Sutton Courtenay’s varied and interesting history.

"I sincerely hope the Local History Society will continue in the future, but I am unable to continue as Chair and so far the Committee and I have been unsuccessful in finding a successor. I am now well into my eighties, and several falls have left me with injuries which are a problem and prevent me from being as active as previously.

"In the meantime, I am compiling an archive of all the Society’s history material which will eventually be kept in the River Room at All Saints’ Church [and, where appropriate, in the Archive section of the Society’s website]. Nigel French is continuing to develop the website and add items to it and we are very grateful to him for all the work he does on this.

"Perhaps there is still a new Chair out there somewhere!"
